Braga Fresh has issued a voluntary recall for its 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores in 20 states due to potential listeria contamination. The recall affects products with a "best if used by" date of December 10, 2024. Although no illnesses have been reported, consumers are advised to discard any affected products they may have at home. The contamination was discovered during routine testing by Texas Health and Human Services, which found a positive result for listeria in a sample from a Texas store.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant individuals are at risk of more severe outcomes, such as miscarriage or stillbirth.

Braga Fresh has emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure, and no other Marketside or Braga Fresh products are affected. Consumers who have purchased the recalled broccoli should not consume it and should dispose of it immediately. For more information, visit the FDA website.
