Procession For Fallen West York Officer Andrew Duarte to Shut Down Roads

Several roads in York County, Pennsylvania, will be closed on Monday morning as the body of West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte is escorted to Lehigh Valley Hospital for an autopsy. The procession will begin at the York County Coroner’s office on Concord Road at approximately 7 a.m. and will travel along Route 30 and Route 222, according to East Hempfield Chief Fire Official John Kottmyer. Police departments will close sections of these roads to accommodate the procession, and fire apparatus will be present to show respect and assist.

Officer Duarte, 30, was fatally shot on Saturday (February 22) during an active shooter incident at UPMC Memorial Hospital in West Manchester Township. The incident also resulted in injuries to two other officers and three hospital staff members, who are expected to recover. The shooter, identified as Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, was killed at the scene. York County District Attorney Timothy Barker stated that Archangel-Ortiz had targeted the hospital's ICU staff due to a previous encounter.

Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered flags across the state to be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Duarte. A fund has been established to support Duarte's family, and funeral arrangements are pending. The community is invited to lay flowers in tribute to Officer Duarte at the West York Borough Police Department.
