NC Deals With Yellow Jacket Swarms After Flooding
(Asheville, NC) -- The devastating flooding in Western North Carolina is leading to a new problem -- swarms of yellow jackets. An entomologist tells NBC News the heavy rain and floodwaters caused by Hurricane Helene likely destroyed the insects' nests underground and in trees. North Carolina health officials say they've bought large amounts of Benadryl and EpiPens to help those who have been stung by swarms of bees or may be allergic. The medications will be distributed through health care providers, hospitals and emergency services.
