Study: Gen Z Blames Social Media For Mental Health Issues

A recent study reveals that Generation Z (Gen Z) attributes their mental health issues to social media use. The survey, conducted by Talker Research and commissioned by LG Electronics, involved 2,000 Gen Z social media users. The respondents identified TikTok and Instagram as the primary platforms affecting their mental health, followed by Facebook. On average, the participants spend between five and six hours daily on social media.

According to the iHeart.com report, just under half of the respondents reported that social media triggers negative emotions, typically surfacing just over half an hour after logging in. Despite these findings, social media remains a significant part of Gen Z's daily life, with motivations for online engagement ranging from boredom to staying informed.

The StudyFinds.org report further reveals that 49% of the respondents experience stress and anxiety due to social media use. However, 80% of the respondents also associate social media with positive impacts on their mood, with comedy, animal content, beauty-related posts, and prank videos being the top mood boosters.

In response to the findings, LG Electronics encourages everyone to be more conscious about the social media content they engage with. The company believes that focusing on optimism can help individuals deal with life's challenges and build a happier life.
