Bill To Prohibit Cellphone Use While Driving To Become Law

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Governor Josh Shapiro is expected to sign a bill soon that prohibits the use of cellphones while driving a car. It passed both chambers of the General Assembly Wednesday. The new law would allow police to issue a 50-dollar fine for a first offense after a 12-month warning period. No points would be added to a driver's record, however. The measure allows for drivers to still make calls with hands-free devices for emergency purposes. State Representative Ed Neilson says distracted driving now causes more crashes than driving under the influence.
