Phillie Phanatic Marks 46 Years
(Harrisburg, PA) -- Fans of the Phillie Phanatic are celebrating his "birthday." It was 46 years ago that the beloved mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies made his first appearance. It happened during a Phils-Chicago Cubs game at Veterans Stadium. Over the years, the Phanatic has entertained fans to the hilt, sometimes at the expense of the opposing teams. The mascot's website says the giant green creature's favorite foods are also some of Philadelphia's favorites: cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, hoagies and scrapple. And of course, his favorite movie is "Rocky."
