Secretary Of Health Says $4M In State Budget Would Help Eliminate Medical Debt

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Secretary of Health in Pennsylvania says the four-million-dollars the governor has allotted in his budget could serve as a pilot program for a wider medical debt relief effort. Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed using the four-million to cancel as much as 400-million in medical debt. A House-passed bill calls for hiring an outside non-profit to oversee the program. The Department of Health estimates that state residents carry just under two-billion-dollars in medical debt.
