Juneteenth Protest Staged at Dauphin County Prison

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Demonstrators at the Dauphin County prison say they chose Juneteenth day to protest what they say are ongoing problems at the facility. Monday's rally was staged by a group called Harassment and Assault Reporting Platform or HARP. Founder Winnie Okello says it was the second year for their demonstration, which she says aims to create awareness of unfair policies and activities at the jail. She says those include the use of a cash bail system and alleged harassment. She also says the Dauphin county facility is part of a national problem of jailing Black and Brown people at a higher rate than white people, which affects not only the people in jail, but also surrounding communities.
