Exercise Tracking Devices May Interfere With Pacemakers

(Salt Lake City, Utah) -- Electronic exercise tracking devices may be problematic for certain heart patients. A recent study at the University of Utah found some smart watches, smart scales and smart rings may interfere with pacemakers or implantable defibrillators. The researchers discovered those smart devices that send an slight electrical current through the body to determine muscle or fat mass, for example, can confuse cardiac implantable devices and cause them to malfunction.
