Study: 1.3M Smokers Would Quit If U.S. Implements Menthol Ban

(Undated) -- A new study shows that many Americans would likely give up smoking if a menthol ban was put in place. The study from a group of American and Canadian researchers shows more than one-million, 300-thousand U.S. smokers would likely quit if the FDA was able to ban menthol cigarettes. The FDA announced a proposal Thursday to ban the product, saying it could significantly reduce disease and death. A separate study from the University of Michigan says the ban could reduce smoking by 15-percent and prevent more than 16-thousand deaths a year by 2060.
