A Quincy Township Supervisor Charged with Corruption Was Found Dead

(Franklin County - CBS21) -- A Quincy Township Supervisor charged with corruption was found dead.

State Police say the body of Kerry Bumbaugh was discovered Friday afternoon inside one of the township buildings in Franklin County.

The coroner says no foul play was involved.

Quincy Township Supervisor Kerry Bumbaugh was in hot water with the law.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office charged the 57-year old in May with a long list of crimes, including conflict of interest, theft, insurance fraud, forgery and tampering with records.

He pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to appear in court on December 10th.

Bumbaugh was accused of using township employees and resources to make improvements at his private home.

Prosecutors allege he also manipulated and falsified documents by inflating invoices to cover personal and township expenses.

In total, he’s accused of bilking taxpayers along with the township out of more than 150K dollars.

After the indictment, calls for his resignation grew louder. Two of the other three supervisors stepped down, but Bumbaugh refused, instead appointing two men to fill the vacancies.

In August, the DA filed two additional lawsuits, claiming both vacancies were filled illegally, but Bumbaugh and his appointees remained in their positions, despite the investigation.
