West York Council is moving forward with a plan to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana. A public meeting was held last night and Mayor Shawn Mauck spoke about the proposal, explaining it would impose a fine for 30 grams or less. It also makes possession a summary offense rather than a misdemeanor. West York's police chief is also backing the ordinance. Council is expected to vote by the end of next month.
