Snow squall leads to fatal 83 wreck

One person is dead and nine others were taken to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 83 near Exit 10 in southern York County.

CBS-21 reports the coroner confirmed that the deceased was a male tractor trailer driver that hit another truck in front of him during sudden snowfall.

Emergency officials said a snow squall was passing through the area when the major fatal crash happened. Multiple tractor trailers and other cars were involved in the crash.

Fritzi Schreffler with PennDOT said, "As soon as the snow squall came through it iced up the road, but the biggest thing it completely whites out everything, you really can't see what's in front of you."

PennDOT warns motorists to always be aware especially when snow squalls are in the forecast. It came down to timing and traffic.
