A portion of West High Street in Carlisle is closed due to a sinkhole. The road opened up yesterday and although the hole is only about two-feet long on top, there is actually a 20-foot sinkhole underneath. West High Street is closed for repairs between Cherry and Orange streets. Belvedere Street will also be closed from High to West Pomfret until the work is complete. Officials believe the sinkhole was caused by a water main break.
