MDS Responds To Serious Needs In Wake Of Hurricane Helene

The Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) is calling for volunteers to assist in their response to Hurricane Helene. The organization, known for its disaster relief efforts, is looking for individuals and groups willing to help rebuild and repair homes damaged by the hurricane.

MDS offers a variety of volunteering opportunities. The most popular form of volunteering involves individuals or groups helping to rebuild and repair homes damaged by disasters. This opportunity is open to people of all construction skill levels and allows volunteers to get to know a new community.

For those looking for a deeper level of involvement, MDS offers a Leadership Volunteer role. In this position, volunteers manage the daily operations of an MDS project, from setup to materials coordination, and handle unexpected challenges.

The MDS Yearlong Volunteer Program is another opportunity for volunteers to enhance their leadership skills and help bring people home after disasters. This program provides a service opportunity for volunteers to enhance their leadership skills and to help bring people home after disasters.

MDS also has opportunities for RV Volunteers, who bring their own RV to the project and help rebuild and repair homes for disaster survivors. This group of 55+ volunteers works, prays, and plays together, often staying in close contact for years after they serve together.

In addition to these opportunities, MDS also offers local projects that require volunteers for a day, a weekend, or longer. These projects are run by MDS Units in the U.S. and Canada.
