Interchange to Be Named After Fallen Trooper

ASHLAND, Pa. — A highway interchange in Schuylkill County will soon bear the name of a Pennsylvania State Police trooper who lost his life in the line of duty.

Governor Josh Shapiro has signed legislation officially renaming the interchange of Interstate 81 and Route 4007 in honor of Trooper Michael E. Pahira Jr..

Pahira was killed on July 1 while on duty in Cass Township, when he was struck by an 18-wheeler along I-81. His death prompted an outpouring of support from law enforcement agencies and communities across the Commonwealth.

According to state officials, Pahira was the 106th Pennsylvania State Trooper to die in the line of duty. The designation serves as a permanent tribute to his service, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting the public.

The newly named interchange will stand as a reminder of Pahira's legacy and the risks law enforcement officers face each day while serving their communities.
