Part of Interstate 83 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, reopened after an 18-wheeler crashed into the 13th Street overpass on Monday night (October 5). The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Exit 44. According to a PennDOT spokesperson, the tractor-trailer struck the overpass, but a subsequent inspection found no structural damage.
The crash led to the closure of the left and center lanes until approximately 11:15 p.m. Crews worked to remove the tractor-trailer and clear debris, including knocked-down signs, from the roadway. PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler stated, "If at any point PennDOT felt the overpass was in danger of falling, we would have immediately closed down the interstate in both directions."
As of now, details about the number of vehicles involved and any injuries remain unclear. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining infrastructure safety, with PennDOT ensuring that the overpass remains secure for public use.
