Classes at Schaeffer Elementary School in Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, are canceled today (Tuesday, September 8) due to significant water damage. The incident occurred on Sunday when a sprinkler head burst, affecting parts of the first and second floors. Acting Superintendent Dr. Martin J. Hudacs announced that the school will not conduct virtual learning today.

The Manheim Township School District is actively assessing the damage and working on repairs. Facilities and restoration teams are on-site to address the affected areas. Dr. Hudacs assured parents and staff that updates regarding classroom availability and any necessary changes will be provided later this week.

Additionally, the Back to School Night event, originally scheduled for today, will be rescheduled. Schaeffer Elementary School, which serves approximately 320 students from kindergarten to fourth grade and employs about 50 faculty and staff members, was closed on Monday for Labor Day.

Dr. Hudacs expressed gratitude for the community's patience and understanding as the district works to ensure the school's safety and readiness for students. For more information, visit the district website.
