A public memorial service will be held this Sunday (August 16) at Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pennsylvania, to honor the late Richard "Dick" Knoebel. The service is scheduled for 9 a.m. in the Phoenix Courtyard, located near the Chalet Gift Shop. Knoebel, who passed away last month at the age of 87, served as president of the family-owned amusement park from 1988 until last year, when he transitioned to the role of president emeritus.
The memorial, taking place exactly one month after his passing and on National Roller Coaster Day, will celebrate Knoebel's legacy and his contributions to the park, which include overseeing the development of popular rides like the Phoenix, Twister, and Flying Turns. Park officials expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and shared memories from the community in a Facebook post.
For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed on the resort's Facebook page. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs due to limited seating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the PAPA Barbara & Dick Knoebel Memorial Scholarship or the Masonic Children’s Home in Elizabethtown.
