A man is facing charges after a deadly crash in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, that occurred last week. Mikaail Fahim Cotton, 23, is accused of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Saige Zink. The crash happened early Thursday morning (July 30) when Cotton lost control of a vehicle, causing it to overturn into the Susquehanna River.
According to CBS21, Cotton was driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI. He and two other passengers managed to escape the submerged vehicle and reportedly asked a bystander not to call 911. However, the bystander did call emergency services, leading to the discovery of Zink's body hours later.
The crash involved two vehicles, a blue Chrysler sedan and a white BMW SUV, both of which ended up in the river after speeding through a stop sign and crossing railroad tracks. CBS 21, reports that Cotton and his companions were seen on surveillance cameras leaving the scene and later approached a man in Columbia to borrow a phone.
Authorities have charged Cotton with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, driving with a suspended license, and failing to provide aid. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Zink's family, raising over $3,600 toward a $5,000 goal. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
