Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has signed a record-breaking contract extension, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history. The 25-year-old inked a four-year deal worth up to $160 million, with $106 million guaranteed, on Tuesday (July 28). This extension will keep him with the Eagles through the 2031 season.
Carter, who was the Eagles' first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has quickly become a dominant force on the field. Despite a challenging 2025 season marked by injuries and controversy, he earned his second Pro Bowl selection. In his first three seasons, Carter accumulated 13.5 sacks, 121 quarterback pressures, and 108 tackles. His performance was pivotal in the Eagles' 2025 Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Carter's new contract could be worth up to $40 million annually. The Eagles had already picked up his fifth-year option for the 2027 season, underscoring their commitment to him as a key player in their defense.
Carter's journey to this point has been remarkable. After a standout college career at the University of Georgia, he was drafted by the Eagles, where he quickly made an impact. Despite some off-field issues and a drop in performance in 2025, the Eagles have shown faith in his abilities, investing heavily in his future with the team.
