Pennsylvania is set to receive nearly $5 million as part of a settlement with GS Labs, a COVID-19 testing company accused of overcharging customers and failing to deliver timely results. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office announced last week that affected residents could be eligible for restitution. GS Labs allegedly inflated cash prices to $380 per test, impacting 30,000 cash-paying customers.
The company also reportedly charged a $49 fee after assuring customers there would be no out-of-pocket costs. GS Labs failed to meet its three-day guarantee for test results, causing further dissatisfaction among customers.
Under the settlement, GS Labs will provide $3.6 million in restitution to affected consumers across several states. The settlement requires GS Labs to establish an online restitution process, which will be overseen by a multistate coalition. Eligible consumers can apply for restitution through the GS Labs website.
The settlement was negotiated by attorneys general from multiple states, including Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Washington, with Pennsylvania joining the agreement. GS Labs has ceased operations but must adhere to revised advertising and sales practices if it resumes testing services.
