The Philadelphia Eagles have traded star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. In return, the Eagles will receive a first-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027. The trade, announced on Monday (June 1), has been anticipated for months and involves Brown, who spent four seasons with the Eagles and helped them win Super Bowl LIX.
Brown, who turns 29 on June 30, was originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2019. He has earned three Pro Bowl selections and is known for his impressive performance on the field. Over his career, Brown has accumulated over 8,500 receiving yards and 60 touchdown catches, making him one of the top receivers in the NFL.
The Eagles have been preparing for Brown's departure by strengthening their wide receiver lineup. They traded up in the draft to select USC receiver Makai Lemon and acquired Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers. They also signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore as free agents.
Brown expressed his gratitude to the Eagles and their fans in a farewell post on Instagram, saying, "Playing for this city has been an honor, and I'm thankful for every moment I had in midnight green." The trade reunites Brown with Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, under whom he played while with the Titans.
The Patriots, who have been actively revamping their receiving corps, view Brown as a key addition. He joins a lineup featuring Romeo Doubs and quarterback Drake Maye. Brown's contract, which runs through 2029, averages $32 million per season.
The Eagles now have 15 draft picks over the next two years, giving them ample resources to build for the future. General Manager Howie Roseman emphasized the strategic nature of the trade, stating it was a win-win situation for both the team and Brown.
