In a heartfelt tribute, first responders and community members gathered to honor Officer Kristen Yeager, a Central Berks Regional police officer who tragically died in a crash while responding to a call on Friday night (May 29). The procession escorted her body from Reading Hospital to Lutz Funeral Home in Mount Penn Borough, with residents lining the route to pay their respects.
Officer Yeager, aged 42, was responding to an emergency call when her patrol vehicle veered off Route 73, entered a ditch, and struck a tree near Manatawny Road in Earl Township. She was ejected from the vehicle and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Yeager, a mother of three, had served with the Central Berks Regional Police Department for two and a half years, also working with Boyertown and Eastern Berks Regional police.
The community's support was evident as homes and businesses displayed blue lights, ribbons, and balloons along the procession route. "We're trying to honor her as best we can, and we're doing it big and proud," said Chief Justin Johnson of the Central Berks Regional Police Department. He described Yeager as a "community gem" and a tough officer with a soft side.
Residents expressed their grief and admiration for Yeager. "She was just a genuine person. She was meant to be a police officer," said Stephanie Yerger of Mount Penn Borough. Brittany Dulis, whose mother trained Yeager, shared, "It's so hard to know that she's leaving kids behind. It's a shame."
State police are investigating the crash, and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days. The Officer Down Memorial Page continues to honor fallen officers like Yeager, recognizing their sacrifices and dedication to public service.
