A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Dy Qual Harris in York, Pennsylvania. The York City Police Department confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (May 27). Harris was tragically shot and killed at Penn Park on Tuesday, May 5. While the identity of the suspect remains undisclosed, police have stated that the arrest warrants, previously sealed, have now been unsealed.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities indicating that another individual may have been involved in the incident. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspects, according to York County District Attorney Tim Barker. The district attorney also noted that the suspects are juveniles, and the details of the warrants will be made public once certain investigative benchmarks are met.
York City Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow emphasized the community's responsibility in addressing the violence. He stated, "When a 15-year-old is killed in our streets, we have to acknowledge it, we have to take accountability, and we have to do something about it."
The York Gun Violence Initiative has been instrumental in reducing gun-related incidents in the city. Tiff Lowe, leader of the initiative, stressed the importance of community involvement in preventing violence. "Maybe we should all examine the roles we play in the enabling, the ignoring, the encouraging," Lowe said.
As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful for justice and a reduction in violence.
