PA Lawmakers to Discuss Ending School Property Taxes

Pennsylvania lawmakers are set to discuss the elimination of school property taxes at a town hall meeting on Wednesday (May 27) in Lancaster County. The event, hosted by Rep. Tom Jones (R-Lancaster/Lebanon), will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Elizabethtown High School. The discussion will feature guests Rep. Wendy Fink (R-Red Lion), Sen. Dawn Keefer (R-Cumberland/York), and former Rep. Frank Ryan.

The town hall aims to address the growing burden of school property taxes on homeowners and business owners in Pennsylvania. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about proposed legislation that could offer relief, such as Fink’s House Bill 1649 and Keefer’s Senate Bill 962. These bills propose replacing school property taxes with a more stable revenue model, ensuring continued strong funding for schools.

Rep. Jones emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "For far too long, Pennsylvania homeowners and employers have carried the heavy and unpredictable burden of school property taxes. This town hall is an opportunity for residents to learn more about potential solutions that would eliminate these taxes and replace them with a fairer system."

Residents interested in understanding how their taxes might change under the proposed legislation can visit noprop.tax for more information. The town hall is open to the public, and RSVPs are requested through Rep. Jones’ office.
