In the early hours of Thursday (May 21), a tragic incident occurred in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where a woman was struck and killed by a train. The Lancaster County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 40-year-old Megan Pimm from Philadelphia. The accident happened around 3:40 a.m. on the railroad tracks near Horseshoe and Jefferson roads.
According to the East Lampeter Township Police Department, Pimm was hit by a Norfolk Southern train operating on the Amtrak rail line. The Lancaster County Coroner, Dr. Stephen Diamantoni, confirmed that Pimm was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further investigation, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
The incident led to a temporary hold on Amtrak's Keystone Service trains between Lancaster and Parkesburg, resulting in minor residual delays. Both Norfolk Southern and Amtrak police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Norfolk Southern spokesperson Heather Garcia reported that no injuries occurred on the train. However, the investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
