A high-speed chase in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night (May 16) ended with a 19-year-old motorcyclist being thrown from his vehicle. The incident began around 8:20 p.m. when police attempted to stop a motorcycle on South College Street in Heidelberg Township. The driver, identified as Carter Kautz from Stevens, Pennsylvania, fled from police, reaching speeds of over 104 mph during the three-mile pursuit.
The chase concluded when Kautz turned onto South Carpenter Street, which dead-ends at a field. Unable to stop in time, Kautz's motorcycle left the roadway and tipped over, throwing him off. Fortunately, Kautz was wearing a helmet and was not injured in the crash. His motorcycle sustained minor damage.
Kautz faces charges of fleeing to elude a police officer and several other traffic violations. Police emphasized the importance of wearing helmets in such high-speed incidents. Local21 News reported that Kautz was charged with several summary traffic offenses in addition to fleeing charges.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about high-speed pursuits and road safety in the area.
