Hersheypark plans to open as scheduled next Thursday (May 21) for the 2026 summer season, despite ongoing contract negotiations with the workers' union, Chocolate Workers Local 464. The union represents more than 4,000 employees at Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, which manages Hersheypark and other properties in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Park officials have confirmed that they are actively engaging in discussions with the union, although the outcome of these talks could potentially impact the start of the summer season. Hersheypark stated that it remains committed to the bargaining process and values its long-standing relationship with union-represented team members. According to a statement from Hersheypark, "We are focused on delivering the experience our guests expect, and we look forward to welcoming them."

The union has not commented on the negotiations, but a labor strike could delay the park's opening or affect ride availability and scheduled events. Employees are voting this week on whether to authorize a strike after rejecting a contract offer, with results expected soon. The workers are seeking higher wages, more affordable healthcare plans, and better compensation for less desirable shifts.

Hersheypark has already opened on weekends this year and plans to operate seven days a week starting May 21. The Boardwalk water park is scheduled to open on May 23. The park has assured guests that it will communicate directly with them if any changes occur.

For now, families planning trips to Hersheypark are advised to monitor updates closely as the situation develops. The park remains open Friday through Sunday, with no announced changes to its operations.
