Woman Pleads Guilty in Cumberland County Overdose Case

A woman from Elizabethville, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a fatal overdose on Christmas Eve 2024. According to court records, Samantha Pack, 31, admitted to delivering the drugs that led to the death of Ronald Martin in his Cumberland County apartment. The charges include drug delivery resulting in death, criminal use of a communication facility, and tampering with evidence.

Authorities reported that Pack was with Martin when he overdosed but left without calling for help. Surveillance footage showed Pack and Martin entering his apartment together, but Pack leaving alone. Police said Pack later admitted to giving Martin the drugs and taking his phone, fearing he might get into trouble if she called 911. The coroner's report revealed that Martin died from a combination of drugs, including Xylazine, also known as "Tranq."

Initially, Pack faced more severe charges, including third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, which were dismissed during a pre-trial conference on April 30. Pack is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30. ABC27 reported that the Silver Spring Township Police filed charges against Pack in April 2025, following an investigation into Martin's death.

The case highlights the dangers of drug use and the legal consequences of failing to seek help in overdose situations. AOL News noted that Pack's actions, including not calling emergency services, contributed to Martin's death. The case has drawn attention to the increasing prevalence of potent synthetic opioids like Xylazine.
