The School District of Lancaster has approved a significant reduction in its workforce to address a $35 million budget deficit. On Tuesday (May 5), the school board voted 7-2 in favor of cutting 92 positions, furloughing three employees, and not renewing the contracts of 37 others. These job eliminations are set to take effect at the end of June.

Board members who supported the cuts emphasized the necessity of these measures to help balance the district's budget. The decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to manage financial challenges and ensure the district's fiscal stability.

The job cuts are expected to impact various departments across the district, though specific details on which positions will be eliminated have not been disclosed. The board's decision reflects a broader trend of budgetary constraints affecting school districts nationwide.

As the district prepares for these changes, officials are likely to continue exploring additional strategies to address the budget shortfall and maintain educational standards.
