Pennsylvania has been ranked as one of the top states for working moms, according to a new report by WalletHub. The report, released on Monday (April 27), evaluated states based on factors like equitable pay for women, potential for career advancement, parental leave policies, high-quality child care, health care, and schools. Pennsylvania secured the 21st spot, placing it among the best states for working mothers.

The top three states in the ranking were Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Connecticut was praised for its low unemployment rates for women and a small gender pay gap, with women earning over 89% of what men make. The state also offers excellent child care and parental leave policies, making it an ideal place for working mothers. Massachusetts and Rhode Island followed closely, offering strong economic environments, good parental leave policies, and quality education systems.

In contrast, Louisiana was ranked as the worst state for working moms. According to WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo, "The U.S. still has a lot of work to do when it comes to improving conditions for working moms, given the wage gap and the lack of representation women have in certain leadership positions." However, some states are making significant strides in providing equitable pay, career advancement opportunities, and robust support systems for working mothers.

Pennsylvania's position at 21st shows that it is making progress in supporting working moms, although there is still room for improvement. The state tied with Rhode Island for the third-best day care system but fell in the bottom half for work-life balance. As states continue to address these challenges, the hope is to create a more supportive environment for working mothers across the nation.
