A pedestrian lost a leg after being struck by a vehicle in a multi-car crash Sunday night in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The incident took place around 8:51 p.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and Catherine Street, according to the Chambersburg Police Department.

Police say a silver minivan was heading south on South Main Street when it failed to stop at a red light, colliding with another vehicle in the intersection. The impact sent the minivan into a pedestrian who was trying to get into a parked car. Firefighters arrived within minutes and found the pedestrian trapped with a leg amputation, as reported by the WHP Local21 News.

First responders extricated the victim from the vehicle within six minutes and airlifted the person to an advanced medical facility. The condition of the pedestrian remains unknown at this time, according to a report from ABC27.

The driver of the minivan stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not announced any charges as of Tuesday (April 28), and the investigation continues.
