Woman Hospitalized After York County Fire

A house fire in York County, Pennsylvania, sent a woman to the hospital on Tuesday (April 21) after a space heater reportedly ignited a pillow next to her face. The incident occurred at a home on Slagel Road in North Codorus Township. Fire officials stated the woman is "lucky she's still alive" and have urged the public to use space heaters safely.

According to FOX43, the woman was hospitalized for her injuries but has since been discharged. The fire also damaged nearby power lines, leading Met-Ed to cut power to the house. Hoarding conditions inside the home complicated firefighting efforts, as reported by CBS 21.

Fire experts, including York Deputy Fire Chief Adam Smith, emphasize the importance of proper space heater use. Smith advises keeping space heaters clear of surrounding objects and plugging them directly into wall outlets rather than power strips. He also recommends maintaining working smoke detectors with fresh batteries.

The North Codorus Township Fire Department led the response, supported by other local crews. The Northern York County Regional Police are investigating the fire's cause.
