Two Firefighters Hospitalized Battling Mountain Fire

Two firefighters were hospitalized after battling a mountain fire in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, over the weekend. The fire, which started on Saturday afternoon (April 11) near Knob Hill Road, quickly spread to approximately 20 acres. The conditions of the hospitalized firefighters remain unknown.

According to the Franklin Fire Company, the blaze crossed fire lines, prompting an expanded response. Helicopters were deployed to make water drops, while crews from the Department of Forestry and mountain fire strike teams worked to contain the fire. Despite the fire's growth, officials stated there is currently no threat to homes along Knob Hill Road.

Fire crews from Franklin, Adams, and Cumberland counties were on the scene for over five hours. The fire rekindled early Sunday morning, requiring continued efforts to control it. The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department confirmed that local crews had returned to service by Sunday afternoon, but forest fire crews will remain in the area for several days to ensure the fire is fully contained.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Senator Doug Mastriano mentioned on Facebook that one residence had to be evacuated. The Franklin Fire Company emphasized the challenging conditions due to dry leaves and timber, which made the area especially susceptible to fire spread.
