York County Man, Girlfriend Charged in Child's Murder

A York County man and his girlfriend now face murder charges in connection with the 2025 death of a three-year-old child in Maryland.

According to PennLive, Dale Brown Jr., 25, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and his girlfriend, Kathleen Amesbury, 28, of Columbia, Maryland, were charged with second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, neglect of a minor, and child abuse in the first and second degree. Amesbury is the mother of the child.

The case began on Wednesday (March 26), 2025, when an ambulance brought a child with "severe injuries" to a Maryland hospital after the child was found at a home on the 7200 block of Procopio Circle in Howard County. The child died two days later.

Hospital staff alerted police after the child arrived with those severe injuries. Howard County Police launched an investigation that lasted nearly a year. Investigators ultimately determined that Brown and Amesbury were responsible for the child's death, though police did not publicly explain how they reached that conclusion. The name and gender of the child have not been released.

As reported by WGAL, authorities arrested both Brown and Amesbury in Pennsylvania on Friday (March 27). The two were taken into custody and are now facing the charges filed by Howard County officials.

No trial date has been announced. The case is expected to move through the Maryland court system.
