A young U.S. Army soldier from Biglerville who died following a training incident at Letterkenny Army Depot will be laid to rest this Saturday (March 28), with services open to the public at his former high school.

Specialist Krystofer Lee Lopez, 18, passed away on Thursday (March 12) after being injured during training at the depot. Lopez was injured around 9:30 a.m. that morning. He was treated on-scene before being taken to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Franklin County Coroner's Office has not yet released a cause or manner of death, and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the incident.

According to Lopez's obituary at Dugan Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., services will begin with a military, fire, and police escort departing Dugan Funeral Home in Bendersville that morning. The procession will travel south on Route 11 to Chambersburg, east on Route 30 through Gettysburg, and north on Route 15 to the Heidlersburg exit before arriving at Biglerville High School — Lopez's alma mater — at 161 North Main Street in Biglerville.

A public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school auditorium, followed immediately by the funeral service at 1 p.m. The family requests that attendees wear something that reflects Lopez's love of motorcycles or food. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Lopez was born May 2, 2007, in York, Pennsylvania, the son of Hector and Carmen (Laureano) Lopez. A 2025 graduate of Biglerville High School, he joined the U.S. Army during his junior year. He held the rank of Specialist and served as a 31B Military Police Officer for the Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Division, and was a Personnel Force Innovation (PFI) member assigned to the 947th Quartermaster Company.

Beyond his military service, Lopez was a volunteer with the Biglerville Fire Company, an avid gamer, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a passionate participant in charity bike runs. He is survived by his twin sister, Kiyerra "Kiki" Lopez; siblings Patrick Howe III, Myra Williams, Hector Lopez Jr., Hector Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Heidy Beth Lopez, and Arlene Lopez; 21 nieces and nephews; numerous aunts and uncles; and maternal grandparents Angel Laureano and Sandra Dewitt.

On Wednesday (March 18), U.S. Representative John Joyce joined the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation on the House floor in Washington, D.C., to honor Lopez's life and service.

The investigation into Lopez's death remains open and ongoing.
