Alison Lintal is Gettysburg's new mayor, appointed by the borough council Monday (March 23) after the previous mayor resigned amid a criminal arrest just three months into his term.
The council chose Lintal from a field of 14 candidates after an initial vote ended in a three-way tie. She was sworn in immediately following the council's final decision, according to WHP's local21news.com.
Lintal brings a strong background in law, education, and local business to the role. She earned her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 2010, after completing her undergraduate studies at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. She previously worked five years as an attorney for the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and later taught at Penn State Dickinson Law. Since July 2023, she has served as a hearing officer for Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment. She is also an adjunct professor of public policy at Gettysburg College and owns Hidden Wisdom Yoga, a studio in downtown Gettysburg.
Lintal's appointment fills the vacancy left by Chad-Alan Carr, who resigned after holding the position for just three months. Carr stepped down following his arrest on allegations of child sex crimes. He is currently out on bail, according to court documents.
Each of the 14 candidates was given the opportunity to speak at Monday's council meeting before the vote took place. The council ultimately selected Lintal to serve out the remainder of the two-year term.
No further details about Lintal's planned priorities for the borough have been released.
