A Franklin County community is preparing to say goodbye to a young soldier killed during a training exercise at Letterkenny Army Depot. Private First Class Krystofer Lopez, 18, will be laid to rest on Saturday (March 28) at Biglerville High School in Biglerville, Pennsylvania.

Lopez died from injuries he suffered during a training exercise on Wednesday (March 12). He was transported to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) announced the service details on Tuesday (March 17).

A viewing will be held starting at 10 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Both events will take place at Biglerville High School.

Lopez served as a military police officer for the LEAD Directorate of Emergency Services Law Enforcement Division. He was also a member of the Personnel Force Innovation (PFI) program, a Department of War program that fills non-permanent needs within defense agencies.

In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Lopez was posthumously promoted to the rank of Specialist.

The investigation into Lopez's death remains ongoing.
