American skater Ilia 'Quad God' Ilia Malinin fell short of the podium during the seventh day of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Friday (February 13).

Malinin, who entered as the heavy favorite to win gold, attempted two quad axels, but pulled up short both times and stumbled on other jumps to finish the free skate with a score of 156.33, ranking eighth among the field of competitors. Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan won gold with Japan's Yuma Kagiyama and Sato Shun taking silver and bronze, respectively.

The U.S. women's curling team defeated Canada for the first time in Olympic history. The Americans rallied back to win 9-8, with the Canadians' attempt to block failing and instead bumping their own stone out of position.

The U.S. women's hockey team continued its dominance with a 6-0 win against host country Italy, extending its undefeated record to 5-0. Kendall Coyne scored a pair of goals, her first two of the tournament, while Hannah Bilka recorded her fourth goal of the tournament.

The Canadian men's hockey team improved to 2-0 with three-time Hart Trophy winner Connor McDavid scoring his first goal of the tournament on a first period Power Play and adding two assists.
