Teens Charged as Adults After Shooting at Lancaster Township Apartments

Two 16-year-old teenagers are being charged as adults following a shooting incident that damaged vehicles and apartment buildings in Lancaster Township, Pennsylvania.

According to Lancaster Township Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Hawthorne Gardens apartment complex on Dickens Drive around 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday (February 10).

Investigators determined that numerous rounds were fired in the parking lot area, striking vehicles and apartment buildings. Several bystanders were in the immediate area and in the line of fire during the incident. One bullet entered an occupied residence, narrowly missing a resident inside.

"Fortunately, no injuries were reported," police said.

The suspect vehicle, which had been reported stolen the day before, was spotted in the area of Stone Mill Road shortly after the shooting. WGAL News 8 reports that three individuals fled the vehicle on foot. Following a brief chase, officers apprehended two 16-year-old suspects.

A firearm consistent with the caliber used in the shooting was recovered near where the teens were apprehended, according to investigators. Authorities did not indicate whether the third individual who fled was caught or charged.

The Lancaster Township Police Department thanked officers from Lancaster City, Manor Township, Millersville Borough, Millersville University, and East Hempfield Township police departments for their assistance in the response.
