The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has announced four public hearings to discuss PPL Electric Utilities Corporation's proposed rate increase. The hearings will be held in December, with one taking place at the Manheim Township Public Library in Lancaster on Thursday, December 11. The PUC aims to gather public input on the proposed changes, which could raise the average residential customer's electric bill by about $13 per month if approved.
On October 23, the PUC voted unanimously to suspend and investigate PPL's rate hike request. PPL serves nearly 1.5 million customers across 29 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania. The hearings will be overseen by Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge Christopher P. Pell and Administrative Law Judge Barbara Shadie Nause. In addition to the in-person hearings, two telephonic hearings are scheduled for Monday, December 15.
According to WGAL, individuals wishing to testify at the telephonic hearings must pre-register by December 11. The PUC has provided a toll-free conference number for those who wish to participate remotely. A final decision on the rate increase is expected by July 1, 2026.
