The City of Lancaster has announced an agreement with Chirisa Technology for the development of two artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. This agreement follows community concerns about potential environmental impacts, such as increased noise, pollution, and water usage. Mayor Danene Sorace stated that Chirisa Technology has committed to using recycled water for cooling the centers and powering them with 100 percent clean electricity.
According to Sorace, the centers will not exceed existing ambient noise levels once operational. The agreement also includes a promise from Chirisa Technology to invest over $10 million in the city's economic development, with the potential to create approximately 300 jobs. However, the specific allocation of these funds is yet to be determined.
The Lancaster City Council is scheduled to vote on the agreement on Thursday (November 21). If approved, the centers are expected to be operational by 2029. Local21 News reports that this development aims to address the community's environmental concerns while boosting the local economy.
