Man Sentenced for Fentanyl Death in Dauphin County

Edward McCreath, a 39-year-old man from Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for providing fentanyl that resulted in the death of Nathan Maurer in July 2019. The sentencing took place after McCreath was found guilty of drug delivery resulting in death. According to Local21 News, McCreath will also serve an additional five years for an unrelated crime.

The tragic incident occurred between July 4 and July 5, 2019, at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center in Derry Township. Maurer, who was 27 years old at the time, died after receiving fentanyl from McCreath. The Derry Township Police conducted an investigation that led to McCreath's arrest on July 31, 2020. He was taken into custody by Swatara Township Police and held on $150,000 bail.

Maurer's family provided statements to the court during the trial, expressing the impact of their loss. The case highlights the ongoing issue of drug-related deaths and the legal consequences for those involved in the distribution of dangerous substances. As McCreath begins his sentence, the community reflects on the importance of addressing the opioid crisis and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
