Farid Akhmedow, a 22-year-old from the Hagerstown area, faces multiple charges after allegedly raping and strangling a Gettysburg College student in her dorm room. The incident occurred on May 2, 2025, after Akhmedow met the victim through a dating app. According to police, Akhmedow forced the victim into sex and threatened her life if she was with another man.

Gettysburg Borough Police filed charges against Akhmedow, including rape by forcible compulsion, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and strangulation. He also faces misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and simple assault, along with harassment. Akhmedow was arrested after a lengthy investigation and was released on $50,000 bail.

The victim reported the assault to police, who responded to Stine Hall on the Gettysburg College campus. She told officers that she had agreed to meet Akhmedow at her dorm before going to a movie. Once inside, Akhmedow allegedly became aggressive, kissing her and removing his clothes. Despite her protests, he continued to assault her.

DNA evidence collected from a rape kit linked Akhmedow to the crime. A lab report confirmed that both Akhmedow's and the victim's DNA were present in the evidence. Akhmedow, who claimed to be a nurse, was identified through his phone number and dating profile information.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday (October 15). Akhmedow's lawyer and Gettysburg College officials have not commented on the case.
