Northern York County Chief Thanks Community Following Officer Deaths

The Chief of the Northern York County Regional Police Department, David Lash, expressed gratitude to the community for their support following the deaths of three officers in an ambush earlier this month. Chief Lash stated, "Your kindness has reminded us that we do not stand alone."

Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser were killed in a shootout on September 17. The officers were responding to a call about a stalking suspect, Matthew James Ruth, who ambushed them at a home in York County. Ruth, armed with an AR-style rifle, opened fire as the officers entered the house, resulting in the deaths of the three detectives and serious injuries to two other officers. Ruth was killed in the exchange of gunfire.

At a funeral service held at Living Word Community Church in Red Lion, hundreds of officers gathered to honor the fallen detectives. Chief Lash delivered a eulogy, emphasizing the officers' dedication to their community and vowing to uphold their legacy.

Becker, Baker, and Emenheiser were remembered for their commitment to their families and community. Becker, 39, was a 16-year veteran of the force known for his bravery and leadership. Baker, 53, was a computer forensics specialist and U.S. Army veteran. Emenheiser, 43, had served in the U.S. Secret Service and was noted for his dedication to law enforcement.

The tragic event has prompted an outpouring of support from the community, with vigils and memorials held to honor the officers. York County District Attorney Tim Barker highlighted the community's resilience, stating, "This county will always be there for our law enforcement."
