Photographer in Wheelchair Faces Long Recovery After Crash

A Central Pennsylvania photographer, Morgan Smoker, faces a challenging recovery after being struck by a minivan at the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg. The incident occurred on Monday (September 1) when Elizabeth Ann Bohrer, 36, allegedly drove through barricades, hitting Smoker and two others. Smoker, who uses a wheelchair and communication device, suffered a broken vertebra, a broken kneecap, and brain bleeding. Her wheelchair, essential for her mobility and communication, was destroyed in the crash.

Morgan's mother, Lanita Smoker, is currently speaking on her behalf until a new communication device arrives. "She has a broken vertebra, a broken kneecap, and some bleeding on the brain," Lanita said, emphasizing the importance of the wheelchair for Morgan's communication and business.

A GoFundMe campaign launched to support Morgan's recovery has raised over $45,000, exceeding its initial goal of $35,000. The funds will help replace her costly equipment and aid in her recovery.

Bohrer, who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the crash, faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle. A blood test is pending to determine if she had intoxicating substances in her system.

Morgan, known for her photography work at Hersheypark, was born with Glutaric Aciduria, a genetic disorder. Despite her challenges, she has built a thriving photography business, sharing her passion with others. Her family is asking for prayers and support as she embarks on her recovery journey.
