Sex Offender in Lancaster County Faces 25 Years for Soliciting Minor

A registered sex offender from Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 12 and a half to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to soliciting nude images from a minor. Ryan Michael Minzer, 36, was sentenced by Judge David Ashworth after admitting to repeatedly asking a 13-year-old girl for explicit images.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, Minzer began communicating with the Harrisburg-area girl on social media around April 2023. Their conversations, which eventually turned sexual, included requests for nude images and offers to meet in person. Minzer also allegedly offered to take the girl shopping for underwear.

The investigation began in June 2023 after the victim's father contacted law enforcement. During a police interview, Minzer admitted to the sexually charged conversations and to having undisclosed social media accounts, a violation of his registration requirements as a sex offender. Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lapp prosecuted the case, and Manheim Township Police Detective Sarah Goss filed the charges.

Minzer's attorney mentioned his "long history" of impulse control issues, but Minzer chose not to address the court during sentencing. The case highlights ongoing concerns about online safety for minors and the importance of monitoring social media interactions.
