Unemployment Claims Decline In Pennsylvania

Unemployment claims in Pennsylvania have decreased significantly, with federal officials reporting just over 10,000 initial claims filed last week. This marks a decline of more than 3,400 from the previous week, continuing a trend where claims have dropped in four of the past five weeks. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the state saw 10,255 new jobless claims for the week ending July 19, down from 13,678 the week before.

Nationally, unemployment claims also saw a decrease, with claims falling to 217,000, a drop of 4,000 from the prior week. The national labor market remains strong, with the Labor Department recently reporting the addition of 147,000 new jobs earlier this month.

Despite the recent decline in claims, Pennsylvania's unemployment rate was at 3.9% in May, slightly below the national rate of 4.1%. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor is expected to release updated figures for June soon
