Resolution Honors Officer Killed in Hospital Shooting

A resolution to honor fallen West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte was introduced in the Pennsylvania State Senate earlier this week. Officer Duarte tragically died by friendly fire while responding to a shooting and hostage situation at UPMC Memorial Hospital on February 22. The resolution, introduced by State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, aims to recognize Duarte's bravery and extend condolences to his family.

During the incident, Officer Duarte was assisting another officer who had been struck by gunfire. At his memorial service, the police chief praised Duarte for his selflessness and dedication. According to Local 21 News, the resolution states that Duarte "demonstrated exemplary knowledge, ability, and integrity" and earned deep respect for his devotion to duty.

Senate Resolution No. 70 seeks to formally honor Duarte's service and sacrifice. The resolution is a testament to the community's gratitude and respect for Officer Duarte's commitment to public service.
